Since nearly half a century ago, when dramatic and unprecedented changes in molecular biology and the recognition of cellular function was sparked by determination of the structure of DNA, the knowledge and understanding of biological macromolecules has accelerated via access to advanced methods. Nucleic acids store the cell information, but proteins have been found to be major players in the life of organisms, and in practice, almost all of the actual cell activities are carried out by proteins.
